About Our BUBBINS Branch
My
husband, John Monkman, is a descendant of a John Bubbins,
his ggg grandfather, who was born about 1770 in Great
Massingham,
John’s great
grandmother, on his mother’s side, was Elizabeth Bubbins(1869-1930). The 1911 census indicates that she
immigrated to Canada in 1908, bringing her three sons, William, Herbert, and
Arthur. They say she came to Canada
looking for her husband, Samuel Gardner, who had deserted her, went to Canada and
joined the Army for WW I. He never
returned to her and the family, but he did survive the war, and remained in
Canada. Elizabeth was living at 166 Harvie Avenue, Toronto, Ontario when she died in 1930.
In
addition to my own research, I want to acknowledge and thank some new-found
cousins whom I’ve met via email and over the internet. Bev Weston, Susan Howland, and Robert Lewis
have each contributed Bubbins
information which has helped me put some of the pieces of the puzzle
together. John & Susan Howland have
also provided some of the following photos.
