About my CAMPBELL Branch

We continue to have some confusion regarding John’s “Campbell” lineage, and I hope someone out there can help us. You can find our Campbell family tree by clicking above. We know that John’s paternal grandmother was Lenna Winifred May Campbell (1882-1952). On her marriage registration, she indicated her parents were Robert S. Campbell and Amanda Barnes. I found both parents buried in Alliston Union Cemetery, Ontario, and the tombstone indicates that his full name

was Robert Sloan Campbell.

The confusion started when I looked up the marriage of Robert Sloan Campbell and Amanda Barnes. There I found that his name was Robert Campbell Sloan, and his father was John Sloan (and his mother was Jeannette McArthur). His siblings also list their father as John Sloan on their respective marriage registrations, and they went by the last name of Sloan. However, Robert’s death registration indicates his father was definitely John Sloan Campbell.

I am continuing to dig for any documentation to confirm whether John’s great-great grandfather was a “Sloan” or a “Campbell”. In the meantime, we are claiming the name Campbell. If you have any ideas or information about this matter, please contact me. Hopefully someone reading my data will be able to provide further information regarding John Sloan Campbell and Jeannette McArthur, and their respective ancestors.
