About Our FORBES Branch

My FORBES ancestry has been well researched and published by others.  I am especially indebted to Ralph Yeo and Steve MacDonald for their input.  You will find my Forbes family tree by clicking above.

I am descended from a Donald Forbes (1568-1614) who was my ggg grandfather.   His name is listed in the big book of United Empire Loyalists, found in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, at the site of the UEL Village where he first landed in 1783 after leaving New York.  It states that he shipped out for PEI the following spring.  He arrived in Low Point, Lot 14, to await his land grant which eventually was given for South West Lot 16.  In 1784 there were already other families living in Low Point, including a Murphy family – hence his meeting of his wife, Janet Murphy.  She had emigrated with her family from Cantyre, Argylshire, Scotland in 1770.

Their daughter, Jane Forbes (1802-1881) married Alexander MacNeill, my mother’s great grandfather.

I DO NOT HAVE A SINGLE PHOTOGRAPH OF A FORBES ANCESTOR.

IF YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE ANY TO SHARE, I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!
