family tree
I am descended from a George
Mabey, my ggg grandfather, who was born in 1756 in
He was a United Empire
Loyalist, and was adjutant to Shuttleworth’s Foresters. He and his wife, Mary Hamilton, arrived at
Charlottetown,
I am greatly indebted to
Paul Mabey, who’s Mabey research has been posted on The Island Register website
(www.islandregister.com/mabey)
The picture below shows a
group of Mabey’s, Dawson’s and MacNeill’s.
The young boy in the left front row, wearing a white shirt and looking
away from the camera, is young Oscar Mabey, son of Albert & Ellen Mabey
(nee MacNeill). There are, no doubt,
other Mabey’s in the photo, but they have not as yet been identified.
IF YOU CAN HELP IDENTIFY THIS PHOTO, PLEASE CONTACT
ME!

The writing on the back of the original (in italics)
reads as follows:
Emma No. 1 (front row – far right)
Elmer No. 2 (front row – 2nd from right)
Annie No. 3 (front row 3 3rd from
right)
Poor Aunt Maggie behind Emma (2nd row far
right)
Grandpa with the whiskers on
doorstep
Grandma x with white apron (front row – far left)
Poor Aunt Eva next, that’s who
you are called after
Esther & Oscar Mabey that was drowned in front of Aunt Eva in picture
I’m behind the door peeking through the crack you can’t see me
I believe these words were written by Cora MacNeill,
and she sent the photo (which is printed on a post card) to her sister and my
mother, Eva Ruby MacNeill. My mom
couldn’t remember what the occasion was –however, the man on the right,
standing in the doorway, might to be wearing a cleric’s collar, so possibly it
was a christening or wedding.
